Easter and Dinosaurs

Jenn's letting me write this one while she watches "Kimora: Life in the Fab Lane."

Here are some of her artistic flower shots. Pretty, no? She did this with our "normal" camera because the "fancy" camera battery died.

Maddy demonstrates the "Ee-aa egg" (we're still working on the "st" consonant cluster). We had all these eggs filled with jelly beans for our Sunday School class, but then none of our kids showed up. So we went to the grown-up class instead. It was a nice change of pace.

Maddy had this adorable Easter dress for $4 at D.I. - in perfect condition, totally amazing. Great find!

She was "helping" me fill the eggs for our class. By "helping" I mean "not eating the jelly beans faster than I could put them in the eggs".
I tried to get some outdoor shots of her in her Easter dress, but she wasn't thrilled with the idea. She just wanted to go play in the dirt.

She thought the little flower buds were pretty cool, though.
And the shoes. She loves shoes. I think her first word was "shooz".

There's a very tempting dirt patch at the bottom of those stairs... don't do it, Maddy!
Here's Maddy & I at the "erosion table" at the Thanksgiving Point Museum of Ancient Life. Basically it's an excuse for kids young & old to play in the sand and water. We both had a blast.
Every civil engineer has to begin somewhere.

We built a dam together. I was worried Maddy might start saying the word "dam" out of context, but she didn't. Dodged a bullet on that one.

We tried explaining that this was a rock that used to be a tree. Not sure if that really clicked.
Family shot in the dinosaur section. Maddy was "little bit scared" of the T-Rex; who can blame her?
Maddy & I next to a brontosaurus leg bone for size comparison.

Maddy admires some trilobites or something.
We had lunch at Sparks, this super-trendy Provo restaurant. Maddy had a Shirley Temple that came with cotton candy. She wasn't really a fan - I think the texture threw her off. Oh well, more for us.

I had a "kiwitini" (all the drinks are non-alcoholic, don't worry Moms.) That's sugar on the rim.
Jenn had a Mango Mojito.
Jenn's good-luck omen: the Robin Red-Breast Bird of Luck. (Not to be confused with the Bluebird of Happiness, or the Yellow Canary Bird of Carbon Monoxide Poisoning.)

Rockin' Robin (tweet, tweet tweet!)
Jenn got new sunglasses. Between that and the scarf, she looks like Alice driving the Ferrari at the end of New Moon.

We made the mistake of telling Maddy the night before that we were going to see the dinosaurs - all we heard about for the entire day was "Go see dinosaurs!" Over and over and over.
She actually fell asleep right before we eventually got to the dinosaur museum, but she perked right up when she realized where we were.
Also, Jenn's mom was here for a few days. She helped Jenn put together an entire new blanket-and-pillow-case set for Maddy's room. All umbrella-themed in honor of Jenn's favorite movie, Mary Poppins.
I think these are raindrops? The wavy yellow part is called "rick-rack". Learn something new every day.

The finished pillowcase - very nice. The room turned out spectacular - thanks, Carrie!

  1. Beautiful flower pictures! They could go on a sympathy card. :)
Cute, cute dress for Maddy! And I LOVE those pillow cases! You're mom is good! I can't wait to see the rest!
The dino museum is great! The mud/water table is by far the funnest thing for kids and adults. I just wish it wasn't so pricey.

  8. So I just spent I-don't-know-how-long getting caught up on your blog. (Don't hate me, but I forgot to put your new address into my blog reader subscriptions, and that's the only way I see a blog these days...weren't you wondering why I keep calling you for updates?)

But can I just say that I want John to post at least weekly? I truly appreciate his humor and take on things. Thoroughly entertaining. Jenn, by the way, you are looking HOT. CAn't wait to see you on Thursday!!!!
